I've started my second Beth Moore Bible Study at Cross of Glory - tomorrow night is week 3 of 10. Beth even has a blog, so I've added it to my blog list on the right. I really enjoy her teaching and passion for the Word of God. This fall the study was on John and it was called Beloved Disciple. The spring one is on the book of Esther titled "Its tough being a woman". Last fall we had about 40 women sign up for the study, and this spring we have over 70! I can't believe how much it has grown, and I'm so happy some other younger women have joined as well. I think it was just Missy and me in the fall session from the "Momentum" age group. Well, we now have at least 10 women our age so we have our own small group to break into prior to the big group video session. I was a little nervous to lead a small group, but I'm praying about it and hopefully it will go easier as time goes on.
I've read Esther before, but never
studied it like this. Each week we focus on one of the chapters, and Chapter 2 talks about how Esther was chosen as queen and won the favor of the king. Even without disclosing her heritage and by listening to
advisers on what to say, she won over all the other women. Mordecai must have been so proud of her, and at the end of the chapter it talks about how he helps foil a plot by some officials to kill the king. The drama makes me think of a soap opera or reality
tv, not an Old Testament book of the Bible. I'm so thankful for our church to make this study available and help me dig deeper about age-old stories that really come to life and teach me important lessons about Esther's life and story.
