Spring allergies

I never thought that I actually had allergies. Sure, I get sneezy in the spring and fall, but never enough to be really unbearable. But, this last week I was sneezing all the time and think I must be affected by something.

Yesterday we celebrated my sister's birthday a little early at my parents house. I had been sneezing all morning so when I got there my mom asked if I needed any Benadryl. It sounded like a good idea so I took 2 pills. I don't think I've taken any allergy medicene in a long time so I really don't know the difference between them. Apparently, Benadryl makes you sleepy and taking 2 pills makes you REALLY sleepy. During lunch I was eating and started to feel tired, and couldn't figure it out since I'd gotten a lot of sleep the night before. Finally I commented on it, and my mom mentioned the Benadryl and it all made sense.... and a hour and a half later after my nap on the couch while everyone else went for a walk I felt much better :)

Sorry for sleeping during your birthday party Amber, and thanks for the nice meals mom! I promise to not take Benadryl at any more family events!

Oh, come on!

Why is it snowing??? I thought it was April showers, not April blizzards?!? This is just rediculous. It has to end soon right? At least Dan is going to be able to take me home tonight so I don't have to talk the bus and walk .6 miles home like I did all week when he worked really late.

Well, enjoy the weather... I just felt like complaining.

April Fools Day!

Was anyone part of any good jokes today? Every year this is ANOTHER one of our family traditions to take advantage of April Fools Day. Usually this is something that just my dad and I do because we're the only ones the a) remember and b) care.

I still like this tradition (unlike the robin tradition) because I sometimes come up with some pretty good jokes. My favorite one was a couple years ago when I found a really funny smiley face icon with lots of colors and wrote Happy April Fools above it and made it as big as an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper. Then I had my mom print a couple pages with the graphic on it and put them upside down back into my dad's printer. So, when he was working later that day and needed to print something he walked over to the printer and the entire background of the page was my April Fools joke! Ha ha, I'm so funny.

Does anyone else have any good pranks they've pulled?

I hate the robin tradition :(

My dad just called and was the first one in our family to see a robin this year. I had heard from several of my friends and co-workers that, yes, they'd seen robins all over the place, but I still haven't seen one!!!

My parents are taking a picture of the infamous robin they saw and I might post it on the blog as proof that they won, but that doesn't sound like very much fun.

I've decided I don't like this tradition very much, and here are the reasons:
1. I work downtown and robins apparently don't like it down here.
2. Like my dad said, it is sudden elimination and so whenever someone sees one it is done for a whole year
3. Even if you are the lucky one to see the first robin, its not like you actually win anything

I'm sure there are more reasons, but thats it for now. Bah Humbug.

robin tradition

One of my family's traditions is to find the first robin every year. I can't remember when this started, but ever since I was a little girl I remember talking to my parents and sister about being the first one to see the robin. I'm pretty sure I won most of the time because I was so competitive, but every so often my dad, mom or even Amber would see the first one.

Today my dad announced that he heard a report that someone saw a robin today and put us all on alert. I've been staring out my office window all day looking, but I guess the first place robins go in the spring happens to be someplace else other than downtown Minneapolis.

So, tomorrow afternoon when I get off of work early for Good Friday, I'm going to be driving around looking for a robin. If anyone sees one, let me know and I'll drive over! (Hopefully my family doesn't read this and start looking more intently too, the best way to win is to quietly search)

What traditions do you have?

Spring!

Spring is here! Yesterday felt a lot like spring, but officially this morning the Vernal Equinox occurred. We're supposed to get snow today and tomorrow, but I doubt the remaining snow on the ground will last much longer.

Dan's favorite season is spring because it is the furthest point from winter again. I think I am a summer person, but probably because its my birthday then and I have so many fun memories being at the lake all summer and not in school. Fall is another favorite because of the beautiful leaves, bonfires, and football. But, spring has its bonuses too. Even though I don't normally like birds, they sound so sweet in the spring chirping in the trees in the morning. Spring also has the best flowers with daffodils and tulips. Usually we see a fawn or two prancing around in the spring, and they are so cute - unlike when they are grown and eat my garden!

I also can't deny the fresh air that demands you open your windows and get the stuffiness of winter out of your house. It usually leads to a day or two of spring cleaning where I get the urge to purge the house of excess clothes and magazines, clean out the fridge, dust everything (even the cobwebs by the ceiling) and rub out the cabinets. Now that I think about it, THAT is probably the reason Dan's favorite season is spring :)

When is it going to warm up??

Come on already, it is March! Isn't it supposed to be a little warmer by now? This week I was in Jacksonville, FL for work and it was sunny and 75. Which led me to forget my jacket at the hotel and FREEZE when I got home to Mpls! I have to go to Vegas next week so I can't complain too much about the cold weather, but I do feel like this winter has been abnormally chilly.

Besides talking about the weather, I don't think I have anything else interesting to blog about right now. Just a lot of traveling and random thoughts...

Here are my top 10 random thoughts:
- can't the Democrats just flip a coin for Obama or Clinton already?
- why do we have to wait so long for the Office to start showing new episodes again?
- I love spring flowers
- Don't forget about daylight savings time this coming weekend
- I'm signing the petition to save the Roseville 4 theaters
- I like playing my piano from Christmas, but feel like I haven't been around enough to master a song yet
- Why is the Ratatouille Wii game so hard?
- Wearing similar shirts for a work conference makes me feel silly
- Driving hybrids are kinda fun, but hard to get used to!
- Being done with school and the cabin is the best.

Thats all I've got. Hope you are having a good day.
